Always consider vehicle operating voltage when installing reproduction Ford gauges. In general, all Ford gauges except for the 1956 model year (the only year that operated on 12 volts) require a 6 volt supply voltage. Applying 12 volts to these gauges will result in damage. If the vehicle is a 1955 model year or earlier and has been upgraded to a 12 volt system, an instrument voltage regulator must be installed to supply 6 volts to the gauges. Ford used this type of regulator on all 1957 and newer vehicles. The regulator must be properly wired and have a good ground to the regulator housing on the instrument cluster.Three upgraded Electronic Instrument Voltage Regulators are also available, depending on the desired mounting configuration. Reference part numbers: 39532, 39533, and 39549.Note: All Ford amp gauges can operate in either 6 volt or 12 volt systems without being wired through the instrument voltage regulator.
